Guided and self-guided tours
This exhibit explores the history of American slavery
and the views on slavery of the first 18 Presidents of
the United States along with other prominent Americans,
the Philipse Family, and Europeans who had a significant
influence on American politics and history. The exhibit
explores the theme of slavery using the portraits in the
Cochran Collection as historical documents and images,
rather than as works of art.
The exhibit is open for regularly-scheduled two-hour
tours and by appointment. School programs linked to the
exhibit are also available.
