Yonkers Downtown Waterfront Business Improvement District Supports County/Yonkers Task Force to Explore Transportation Hub in Getty Square

Executive Director Says Business Community’s Input Needs to Be “Part of the Equation”

YONKERS, NEW YORK (February 8, 2008)  Steve Sansone, Executive Director of the Yonkers Downtown Waterfront Business Improvement District (YDWBID), today announced the organization’s support for the formation of a task force comprising Westchester County and Yonkers officials who will study a permanent transportation hub in the Getty Square area. Plans for the task force were presented in a press release issued today by the office Ken Jenkins, Westchester County Legislator representing Yonkers who is Chair of the Government Operations Committee.

Mr. Sansone said: “We thank Mr. Jenkins for taking this initiative. Clearly, Getty Square—which is a main transfer point for the county’s Bee-Line bus routes and Metro North commuters—needs to be upgraded to reflect today’s needs and future demands.”

Sansone noted that the YDWBID expects to be part of the task force’s discussions. “We want to insure that any proposed plan would not impede the flow of customers to the merchants and other businesses in the downtown district who are providing the engine that’s driving the area’s economic revitalization. So, it’s very important that the downtown waterfront business community becomes an integral part of the Getty Square transportation hub equation.”

The Yonkers Downtown/Waterfront Business Improvement District (YDWBID) was created to promote and implement the economic vitality of the District and the City of Yonkers. The BID is also designed to maintain the downtown streets, contribute to public safety, landscape the district, market special events and create promotional opportunities to highlight the area. Additionally, the BID will preserve and encourage the cultural, historic, tourist and civic interest of the District and the City of Yonkers.
