Veterans Day Observance

A ceremony honoring our Veterans was held at the War Memorial in front of Yonkers City Hall (40 South Broadway) at 10:30 AM on November 11th, followed by a reception in the Mayor's Reception Room, Yonkers City Hall, second floor.

The schedule of events is:
Welcome- Albert Ramsey, Director Veterans Affairs
Invocation - Rev. Terzo Vinci
Presentation of Colors- Yonkers Police Rifle Team & Color Guard
Pledge of Allegiance - James Nolan, Chairman of the Central Committee of Veterans Organizations
National Anthem
Introductions- William Regan, Deputy Mayor
Comments- Mayor Phil Amicone
Guest Speaker - Major Thomas O'Connor, USMC
Gun Salute & Taps- Yonkers Police Rifle Team & Color Guard
Awards Presentation to Gold Star Mothers- Mayor Phil Amicone
Closing - God Bless America

The Yonkers War Memorial, erected in 1922 to honor those killed in World War II, "the war to end all wars," was updated last year to, unfortunately, add 4 marble plaques to list those residents of Yonkers who gave their lives in other wars - Korea, Vietnam and Iraq/Afghanistan.
