A ceremony honoring our Veterans was held at the War Memorial in front of Yonkers City Hall (40 South Broadway) at 10:30 AM on November 11th, followed by a reception in the Mayor's Reception Room, Yonkers City Hall, second floor.

Veterans Affairs Director Albert Ramsey welcomes officials and the audience to the Veterans Day observance.

Mayor Amicone addresses the assembled veterans, Gold Star Mothers, veterans groups, members of the YPD, YFD, officials and the crowd on South Broadway.

USMC Major O'Connor, winner of the Silver Star, discusses the importance of studying the history of war, quoting Yonkers native General Joseph "Vinegar Joe" Stillwell and stressing the importance of veterans' achievements in steeling the resolve of today's troops before they engage in battle.

Mayor Amicone presents plaques of recognition to the Gold Star Mothers.

The Yonkers War Memorial, erected in 1922 to honor those killed in World War II, "the war to end all wars," was updated last year to, unfortunately, add 4 marble plaques to list those residents of Yonkers who gave their lives in other wars - Korea, Vietnam and Iraq/Afghanistan.
