Yonkers St. Patrick's Day Parade 2008

Yonkers St. Patrick's Day Parade kicked off at 1:30 PM (McClean and South Broadway), ending at reviewing stand on Hudson/S Broadway. There were live music and meal specials at our local restaurants, particularly Patty J's (38 Main Street), Tyrone House (82 Main Street) and Pier View (foot of Main Street on the waterfront).

On  March 2nd, 2008,  the Fifty-third Annual Yonkers’ St. Patrick’s Day Parade was led down Broadway.

Michael Morley, hailing from Knock, County Mayo led the 53rd Yonkers Saint Patrick’s Day Parade down Broadway on March 2nd 2008. He received his sash from out-going 2007 Grand Marshall Owen McClain on February 2nd at the official "Changing of the Sash" Ceremony. The event was held at Sacred Heart High School, 34 Convent Place.

Mike is the youngest child of Luke & Annie Mary Morley. All 7 siblings and his 97 year mother live in Ireland. He attended the local National School and St. Coleman’s College, Claremorris, County Mayo, where he started his Gaelic football career. He was a member of several championship teams both with the St. Coleman’s and the local Claremorris Football Club. He came to Yonkers in 1973 and a day after his arrival he played in Gaelic Park with the Mayo Football Team of New York and has remained involved with the club ever since.

Before purchasing Morley’s Superette on Lake Ave, he paid his dues working long hours for his uncles in the grocery business. Always a pillar of Lake Avenue community, he could always be found participating in all local events from Hibernian Day in Lennon Park to the Annual Christmas tree lightings on the Avenue. He went on to establish Morley’s Restaurant & Bar and expanded his store to a supermarket. Mike also opened Morley’s Catering at Dunwoodie and successfully operated it for over ten years.

In 1979 he met and married Ellen Dugan at St. John’s the Baptist Church. They are the proud parents of three wonderful daughters Sarah, Linda & Kathleen. He recently started a new career path when he joined the Real Estate office of Prudential Riverside Homes as a salesperson.

In his spare time Mike likes to golf, and is a member of "The Boys from the First Hole" Golf Club in Yonkers. He is the treasurer of the Miles Scully Division 1 AOH of Yonkers, a Charter Member of the Tara Circle Group, Vice President of the Mayo Football Club of NY, Scarsdale Elks Club and the American Irish Association of Westchester. Mike also is very active in Irish Heritage Day at Macy’s Field. In 1997, Michael was an aide to both the New York City and Yonkers St. Patrick’s Day Parades.

The Aides to the Grand Marshall will be Kerin McCue; Maureen McGillicuddy; Scott McGowan; Mary McMahon; John Mueller; Michael O’Neill; Jean Tickell & John White.
